Elder Hadley Update in Argentina

Mom Notes:

Tonight, we had a surprise video call from Elder Hadley who was at the Ward Mission Leaders House. The President of Argentina closed their boarders last Sunday, so no one is allowed in or out of Argentina. The President is also starting a mandatory quarantine for all of Argentina tonight.

Quarantine is a little different there, if you leave your apartment the police will come and escort you back to your home or arrest you.

Only one person from each family can leave to go to the store which makes it tricky for a missionary companionship. They went to the store to see what they could get, and they purchased, rice, pasta, onions, oranges, soy sauce, chicken seasoning and you guess it…Toilet Paper!

They could not buy any meat, but he figures he will just lose some more weight! ðŸ˜‚

His apartment is very humble with very little and they have one flip phone for the companionship to be able to text the Mission President.

We asked what he had to keep him busy during the quarantine and he said he has his Book of Mormon and Bible to study and will work on his Spanish.

Parker's Mission President asked the missionaries today to dress very casual and to take off their name tags for safety reasons. Safety has proved to be a concern especially for the Americans.

We talked openly with him on how to prepare if his mission assignment changes and this was his response.

“Worry is payment on a debt you may never owe…..Shirley Hadley”.

We had a good laugh because that is a quote said often by his Grandma Hadley!

One year ago, today Parker received his call to the “Argentina, Buenos Aires South Mission” and we had never seen such a reaction from him, or any other future missionary! This was and still is his DREAM mission call and we all knew it, that was probably this reason for all of our reactions.

I posted the video of him opening his call on Facebook today along with the GIF he made of his famous fist pump. We were able to show the video and GIF to him through our screen.

This is a moment I will not forget while watching him and his beaming smile, one year later in Argentina, rewatch his moment! Seeing that video of him will carry him through this bump in the road and he said, “Man I love that GIF”!

Elder Hadley is praying for all of us and told us to keep his two Grandma’s inside! He also said to tell Grandma Condie Happy Birthday and that he loves her so much!

We were able to have a special family prayer before we hung up and he is ready to take on this challenge with the help from his Heavenly Father.  Elder Hadley is hoping to talk with us again possibly on March 31st .

We ask for your prayers not just for Elder Hadley, but all the missionaries and their families who are dealing with these times of uncertainly.

As the Hadley Family, we are moving forward with “Faith not Fear” and know that Elder Hadley is being watched over and is right where he is supposed to be!

Les amo mucho,
Elder Hadley’s Mom
