First Transfer and First Baptism!

¡Holaaaaaaa! This week has been a great and very busy! Elder Aldave and I have been working very hard and like always walking a ton! I am proud to say I have 3 baptisms under my belt! Federico, Guillermia, y Isabel Burrueco got baptized on the 27th and confirmed yesterday the 29th! It was a little nerve racking but very much worth it! The Baptism was great, and they were so excited to get baptized. They are going to be strong members for the ward. And no, we did not baptize their dog!

Our Zone broke the 3-year record of baptisms in a month. The old record was 10 and this month our Zone had 16!

The money funds were a little tricky because this was a 5-week month, so we did not have gas for the hot water. Cold showers at 7 in the morning are great and missing my shower at home!

Looking back on my first transfer in the field I've been thinking of all the things I'm doing well and what I can do better. The list of things to do better is very long Jaja!!! I am very happy with the opportunities and the people in my path every day.

I've had many opportunities to give blessings these past few days. I look back on the many blessings I have received from my Dad and all the other influential Priesthood members who have helped me be able to become who I am today.

Good friend of mine got transferred out yesterday, Elder Gonzales from Chile, he was my first Zone Leader with Elder Bush.

For Noche de Hogar we went over to Familia Chayan and made Pizza de Jesus! It was a great experience to learn how to make pizza from scratch (Not Little Caesars) Jaja!!!

My spiritual note is to those who have questions about how to better follow in His footsteps. In Doctrine and Covenants 19:23 it explains very well how to do that.
1. Learn of me
2. Listen to my words
3. Walk in the meekness of my Spirit.

Busy week here in Acevedo but always working hard to bring more unto Christ! Hope you all have a great week!

Les amo,
Elder Hadley

P.S. Enjoy those General Conference Cinnamon Rolls!!!

Stay in the Mission Boundaries Elder Hadley

¡Hola! This has been another great week here down in Buenos Aires Sur (South)! We have been working hard to find that Chemistry as a Companionship and see what things we both can do better. But overall not too much going on this week.

I had my first Intercambio (Exchange) where I stayed in my area... Elder Hadley took the wheel for a day and showed our area to Elder Goldberg. It was quite interesting... we didn't get lost and we may or may not have ended up in the East Mission...Jaja

I got out there on the street stopping everyone explaining how Christ Church has been restored on the earth! It was great! Learned a lot from this intercambio.

It is starting to warm up down here and I’m drinking mate with juice now!

I'd like to end this week’s letter with a spiritual thought and a compromiso!  In church yesterday Federico (and his dog) came to church. We explained the hierarchy of the different organizations within the church. It was kind of difficult, but it led us into the topic of ministering and how we all make a difference of whether we have more or less inactive members. Our ward has a huge problem with that. They get baptized and then never come back.

Throughout the week we teach about Christ ministry while he was on the earth in the first lesson. I've had the chance to look back and think what I could have done to be a better minister back at home. Jesus was a friend to all and I'd like to be a friend to all as well. Now I'm not here to just tell you to go minister but just think for a moment this next week what you can do to help another person to be their friend. I love you all and am very thankful for your prayers.

Pray, Read your Scriptures, Go to Church and have a wonderful week!
Elder Hadley

P.S. You all better be getting ready for General Conference!

It is a Croissant-style sweet pastry and Medialuna means Half Moon

Mom Note:  Elder Hadley wanted me to include this picture that I sent him.  Two of his good buddies are leaving for their missions and spoke in our ward yesterday.

Elder Hadley was definitely there in spirit! The Quail Crossing Ward has an amazing Young Men's program with many fantastic leaders who Parker LOVES!!!

Our Investigators have Gone to the Dogs

¡Hola! Every day I learn something new and different. Elder Aldave and I have been working hard (walking more than I ever have in my life) and seeing more of the light of Christ in the people we teach.

Just yesterday at church we had another attendance. It was our friend Federico and this time both his little sisters came too. Their dog followed us as we walked to church but was left outside. During church someone opened the door and the dog came in. I was passing the Sacrament and noticed something white run past me and yes.... the dog ran around the Chapel during the Sacrament. Federico knows next time to leave the dog in the house and not let it follow us when walking to church. Jaja

One day I was walking through El Ceibo (The Villa) with Elder Aldave and a little three-year-old boy looked up at me, pointed saying, "El es muy fea!" Which means he is ugly. I think the boy is mistaken and thinks I'm some Yankee when I am really a Latino. Jaja

Last night I had a once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget... I had my first "ASADO!" I thought I would go my first transfer without an Asado (Argentine BBQ) but it was a Tender Mercy from the heavens, and our neighbors that live above us!

It was a small one (hard to believe it) because I'm in the city, but it was delicious. I've also been able to eat a lot of other stuff too! (Not too hard to believe)

Something spiritual that has been on my mind this last week was on the Law of Tithing. As we explain how much tithing is, what it goes towards, and what we get in return; it has made me think of all the blessings in my life that I have received for constantly making that small sacrifice. I want you all to know I have a strong testimony of the Law of Tithing, and I know that if we continue to make that sacrifice it will bring happiness to you and your family. Love you all and have a wonderful week!

Los Amo,
Elder Hadley

We had our first video call from Argentina!!!

Two Months, Rain and Empanadas

¡Hola! Hope you all are doing well. This week has been a great week with getting to know the members and more new investigators.

Yesterday we had our first attendance to church. Federico is a great kid and has come from a good family. His papá wasn´t feeling well when we first met him. We asked him if he would like a blessing. Federicos Dad has 3 different Italian last names. It was a little tricky for me, but I gave my first blessing in Castillano this week.

Elder Aldave and I also had the opportunity to attend the "Nuevo Pacto" Church. It was interesting and different but at the end we had the opportunity to teach and testify of the Plan of Salvation. We referenced the Bible a lot to back up our testimonies. First time we´ve taught a lesson in a different Church and to a different Religion! Jaja

So, it was my first Zone Conference this week and I was able to meet up with some old buddies from the CCM. We had a bunch of Pizza and Empanadas for Almuerzo! Learning a lot of how to be a Consecrated Missionary and I know the Lord is helping me.

On a Spiritual note I´d like to share and testify of the Power of Obedience. I´ve been trying to be more obedient with what I do here on the mission and have seen how it is helping us with the work and taking it day by day. The 10 Commandments and other things the Lord has asked us to do can sometimes feel like rules or things we have to do. It is hard but I am here to tell you that they make us better people as we progress to become more like our Savior. Showing faith through action, I guarantee you will be blessed for it. Love you all and hope you have a great week.

P.S. Rained a little this week JAJA

A Yankee and his Weed Eater

¡Hola! This last week was a good one. Elder Aldave and I taught more lessons and are getting more and more adjusted. It gets pretty cold at night and I am wearing my coat.  The coldest it has gotten is 59 degrees in our room.

For those who don't know 1 US Dollar = 63 Argentina Pesos. All prices for things are changing and confusing but we are catching on.

This last Saturday we did a service project for the Gonzales Family. We mowed the lawn... with a weed eater. With only one weed eater and two missionaries (one missionary had never seen a weed eater before) Elder Hadley needed to step to the plate and get the yard looking nice.

In Argentina they call us Yankees.  We can’t say that we are Americans because they are also Americans, South Americans so I lovingly get called a Yankee! 😁Rrenso (Gonales) was happy to see a Yankee working for him Jaja!!!

I'm loving it here in Argentina and loving the people. After the service project on Saturday we changed and got back to work. In the street the Spirit told me to smile just for a second and look up from the rocky road. I saw this Dude with his shirt off with a bunch of tattoos and smoking. I smiled and waved, and I’ve done this a hundred times before, but nothing happens. This tattooed 19-year-old shouted for me to come. I went up to him and started talking. We taught him a lesson and you can tell he wanted more. I love this dude.

So, the moral of the story is when it is hard and tiring think about Christ and what he did his whole life. He always loved everyone. Listen to the Spirit and Keep smiling!

Te amo, Elder Hadley

Mom Note: A little information from communicating back and forth with Elder Hadley today.
  • Elder Hadley has shared his testimony the two Sunday’s that he has been in Argentina. He loves the people in the ward and the Bishop is great.  The members help him a lot with Castillano (Argentines dialect of Spanish).
  • Parker likes the food and is burning it off every day.  He does a lot of walking and said he walks McKay’s whole mission every day and that her mission is basically his area. 😂(McKay served in the LA Area)
  • Parker bought a watch for $3 today and he also bought his first Mate Cup Today! One of many that I am sure he will purchase.
  • Parker communicates with us from an Internet Café and it is hard for him to type because the keyboard does not have the letters since it has been used so much.
  • President Nelson was in Parker’s mission this last Wednesday (Buenos Aires), but not sure if Parker was able to view the broadcast meeting for the people of Argentina, he did not mention it.  But nice to know the Prophet was in the area. 💗
